Carry on Warriors:

A healing group for mothers that have survived trauma

Despite motherhood being an exciting and joyful time in our lives, women who carry a trauma history may unexpectedly find pregnancy, postpartum, and/or parenting to be a difficult time. So many aspects of pregnancy, birth, and mothering can reawaken memories of a previous trauma and provoke emotions and symptoms we never expected to feel as new parents. Parenting in general can be overwhelming, but parenting as a survivor brings on a new level of exhaustion that can leave you feeling anxious, isolated and confused. 

Even more, we know that trauma doesn't always look like physical danger or unexpected complications that result in harm to you or your baby. For some women, factors such as loss of control, loss of dignity, feelings of not being heard or the absence of informed consent can feel traumatic. A healthy baby is not all that matters. For most women, a positive birth experience is almost always linked to how the experience made her feel. That's because birth is not solely a physical process. It is a deeply emotional and transformative experience that needs to be honored.

Carry on Warriors is a group for mothers that holds space on that journey. We recognize that parenthood is a shit show of epic proportions, especially because it brings up all the deep down ugly mess from our past. We recognize that you are not only navigating sleepless nights and bodily fluids, but also pain, fear, rage, regret, or loneliness. We understand the heartache you have survived and we want to help bring awareness to your triggers so you can rebuild a sense of safety and parent without fear, shame, or guilt. You are not alone. You are not to blame. We see you and we are ready to bear witness to your next round of healing.

This will be a 6-week process group where we explore the layers of trauma and how it effects us emotionally, physically, and as mothers. We will begin to process some of the trauma within the group and explore healthy coping mechanisms and how to feel best supported in your journey to healing. We will create a safe space to learn and heal with others experiencing motherhood in the wake of trauma. No matter when your trauma was experienced, we are here to hold space for you.
